oh rachel, i had no idea of all that was really going on for you while away. i also had some unexpected experiences in india (who doesn't??) which humbled me and taught me greatly. i truly appreciate what you wrote about labels, how we come to think of ourselves as something, to learn maybe we are 'nothing' at all.

i return to the US today and we'll see what happens...global yogini turned US resident for a bit?

Many thanks with your good story. If i have a chance to visit in Bangkok again , i will go to Grand Palace and looking for the hotel around Kaosarn Road. I think that Kaosarn Road is good for young travellers. Around the street, there are a number of old buildings and temples, some of which have been transformed into restaurants and even tattoo parlours, although you will still find quiet family homes if you look deep enough. Aside from some interesting architecture, Banglampoo shows the mix of peoples and heritages that is the character of Bangkok. There are Muslims, Buddhists, Mons, and of course a great number of foreigners in this small area. All of this makes the area an interesting place for a glimpse of Thai life. Thais also appreciate the area for the many types of traditional kanom or Thai snacks and desserts available and the cheap clothing available in the Banglampoo Market

Very interesting sketch of experience at Vipassana Camp. Although it leaves me curious as to why did you go for this camp at first place. Did you complete the camp? Once you came back to reality, out of the camp's decipline did it change your life in anyway.

yeah Rachel! great post. I continue to envy the fantastic life you have created for yourself. truly wonderful and inspirational - if only we all had the chutzpa to live our lives as close to our dreams as you do (of course, then maybe no "real work" would get done in this world, but maybe that's not necessarily a bad thing... who's to say for sure?).

Rachel: I am so touched by the simple yet awe-inspiring summary of your journey; and it's closure of sorts - entwined with new beginnings too. Some odd memories to float include walking through Spring Grove Cemetary to Sarah Luken's house in 90 degree summer heat (why?); putting on your mom's scarab bracelet every time she was not home; wet pasta all over your kitchen; "gah!" and that I actually wore pink, chiffon lace to prom on crutches - if that is not bravery, I simply don't know... alas - until next time my lifelong friend, until then, if you do something bad, do it twice for me?
